Explore. Learn. Grow. Belong.
At Riverview Roots Elementary, our instructional model is grounded in a clear and intentional approach:
learning is most powerful when it is meaningful, connected, and rooted in real experiences.
Our model centers on integrating strong academic instruction with purposeful, hands-on learning that connects students to the natural world, their community, and each other.
At Riverview Roots, the natural environment is not an add-on—it is an essential part of how students learn every day.
Located near the Fox River and surrounded by natural landscapes, our school uses the outdoors as an extension of the classroom. Students regularly engage in hands-on learning experiences that connect academic content to the world around them.
Through structured outdoor learning, students will:
Observe and investigate natural systems
Engage in real-world science and environmental problem-solving
Build independence, resilience, and confidence
Develop a strong sense of stewardship for the environment
Outdoor learning is intentionally embedded into the school day through science, literacy, physical education, and dedicated outdoor education experiences.
At Riverview Roots, we believe that when children learn in and from the natural world, learning becomes more meaningful, engaging, and lasting.
Our goal is not only for students to learn about the environment, but to develop a lasting connection to it.
Students will have opportunities to:
Care for and learn from natural spaces
Participate in outdoor exploration and environmental projects
Build an understanding of their role in protecting and sustaining the environment
These experiences help students grow into thoughtful, responsible members of their community and the world.
Riverview Roots is committed to providing rigorous, research-based academic instruction for all students.
Our literacy program is grounded in the Science of Reading, ensuring students build strong foundational skills in phonics, fluency, comprehension, and writing. In mathematics, students engage in conceptual, hands-on learning that develops problem-solving skills and deep understanding.
We believe that all students can succeed with the right support, and we use a multi-level system of support (MLSS) to ensure every child receives the instruction and intervention they need to grow.
All students at Riverview Roots participate in Spanish language instruction beginning in 4K. Through consistent exposure to language and culture, students build early communication skills, strengthen cognitive development, and develop an appreciation for diverse perspectives.
Spanish is taught as a dedicated subject and reinforces our commitment to preparing students to be engaged, thoughtful members of a diverse and interconnected world.
We prioritize the development of the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our school integrates daily opportunities for:
Social-emotional learning
Relationship building and collaboration
Reflection and goal setting
Through consistent routines and a supportive environment, students develop confidence, self-awareness, and a strong sense of belonging.
At Riverview Roots, relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
Teachers take the time to truly know their students, creating a classroom environment where children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Families are valued as partners, and communication between home and school is a priority.
Our goal is to prepare students not only for academic success, but for life beyond the classroom.
Riverview Roots students will leave with:
Strong foundational academic skills
The ability to think critically and solve problems
Confidence in themselves as learners
A deep connection to their community and environment
